river island tie-dye dress

you know what i'm loving today?  a dress that costs $41 and makes me feel like a million bucks.  i'm not sure what kind of math that is, but it's the kind i like.  you may remember it from here, when i recommended my pal lucy get it to wear to a wedding in bali.  lucy, get it.  let's be twins.  xx- sarah {more after the jump}

ASK SARAH: WHAT TO LAYER WITH DRESSES IN THE SPRING/SUMMER

QUESTION: Hi Sarah! I always adore your fashion posts, so I'd love it if you'd help me out with a little conundrum - I love wearing dresses & skirts in the spring and summer, but since I'm often out and about into the night, I like to layer. I'm ridiculously short (5') so blazers tend to look silly on me with dresses, but I'm quickly tiring of only adding a cardigan on top. Any creative ways to broaden my layer horizons? Thanks! xo, Anni

ANSWER: hi anni!  i've put together some options... mostly of the cropped variety.  you can almost never go wrong with throwing a denim cropped jacket over a dress, but even that needs mixing up every now and then.  so i've given you some other options too!  i love the juxtaposition of feminine dresses with army jackets, so there are a couple of those options (and if you're 5' throw on some heels when you're out and about for the night and you can get away with a longer jacket!).  i also included a motorcycle jacket and a less traditional blazer (i think the super short crop would make it workable on your petite frame!) and, if you're still looking for more options i've added some extras in the links below! hope you love!  xx- sarah

TULUM, WHERE THE JUNGLE MEETS THE SEA

i'm so excited to finally share some of my photos from tulum, and a few of my recommendations for those who are planning a trip there!  what took me so long, you ask?  sometimes when i travel i become so consumed with the experience that i have a really hard time getting motivated to photograph.  and then i come home and kick myself over all the photos i didn't take.  it all started with a three week trip to thailand in 2001 where i shot only one roll of film. 36 PICTURES IN THREE WEEKS!  but i remember that trip still, so vividly, and i think it's in large part because i was just really soaking it in.  i wasn't consumed with trying to get it on film so i could remember every little detail, i was just IN IT, you know what i mean?  so it's this conflict i have now when i travel, and i struggle with striking a balance.  but enough about that.... tulum awaits!  {more after the jump}

peanut butter chocolate chip granola bars

hi friends!  growing up i was obsessed with nature valley peanut butter granola bars.  you know the ones? peanut buttery, flaky goodness.  so i set out to create a healthy, non-processed version.  and it took me four go-rounds to get a recipe i'm in love with.  but let me tell you, even the practice rounds were all scarfed down in a matter of days.  these are such a perfect snack to get you by until your next meal, i cannot tell you enough how much of a staple they've become in our house!  hope you love as much as i do.  xx- sarah {more after the jump}

shampoo free update

hi everyone!  i've gotten some requests for an update on my shampoo-free experiment (which has easily transitioned into a way of life) so wanted to take some time to fill you in!  first things first: i'm loving it!  and since i have naturally curly/wavy hair it's been great on cutting down the frizz.  i finally found that diluting the apple cider vinegar rinse a TON helped tremendously on taking away the intensity of the smell.  i still get little whiffs of it when i'm working out, but it's tolerable.  and worth it because the apple cider vinegar really does goes a long way in the detangling department!

i can't lie, i've had some greasy days.  mostly due to my love of coconut oil and josie maran's argan oil and the copious amounts i put all over my body and into the ends of my hair.  but a good wash with the baking soda rinse takes it all out!  i have to say, i'm happier with the texture of my new shampoo-free hair, although it's less soft than when i was putting a million and one products in it.  but somehow less soft also looks better.  and i think it seems healthier and stronger.  i've been using my mason pearson brush religiously, and i love it!  and i find that i can go a couple of days without a rinse, and still have hair i'm happy with.  which is ideal because i'm a lazy girl when it comes to beauty!

so there you have it, i'm loving it and not looking back.  i think shampoo/conditioner and hair products in general are a thing of the past for me.  chime in below if you've tried it and have something to share, i'd love to hear! (and if you're interested, you can read my last progress update here) xx- sarah
